The Tea Party Express, which left California last Friday and is traveling east with the goal of arriving in Washington for the Sept. 12, 2009, Taxpayer March on D.C., will be passing through Memphis — its only stop in Tennessee — Friday at about 10 p.m. The location will be just off I-40 at exit 12 south of Bartlett, in the area of the BASS Pro Shop. The caravan will continue toward Nashville and then will go north to Louisville, Ky., but there are no other listed stops in Tennessee than in Memphis.
According to the Tea Party Express Web site, “At each stop the tour will highlight some of the worst offenders in Congress who have voted for higher spending, higher taxes and government intervention in the lives of American families and businesses. These members of Congress have infringed upon the freedom of the individual in this great nation, and its time for us to say, ‘Enough is enough!’”
Area citizens are invited to be present at the Memphis stop and/or to join the express or to travel to Washington on their own schedule and join Tea Party participants there.
