ATLANTA – August 31, 2009 – On September 30, the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA) will team with Southeast schools to celebrate the ninth annual World School Milk Day (WSMD).

WSMD, celebrated worldwide by more than 40 countries, provides schools with an opportunity to recognize local dairy farmers while educating children about dairy foods. To increase involvement in this global celebration, SUDIA will highlight WSMD events and activities in all Southeast school districts.

“Participation in WSMD provides schools with a great opportunity to engage local dairy farmers and teach children about the importance of drinking milk for strong bones and teeth,” said Molly Szymanski, SUDIA’s assistant manager of child nutrition.

To show appreciation to Southeast dairy farmers, SUDIA will work with top dairy producing counties in each state throughout the region. For example, in Putnam County, Georgia’s dairy capital, a traveling agricultural exhibit will highlight the dairy industry in honor of local dairy farmers and their families.

“We are excited about this exhibit and the opportunity to celebrate WSMD with the dairy farmers,” said Linda Silverman, SUDIA’s school marketing account manager for Georgia. “This provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about agriculture and dairy foods.”
