Run Dawg Run — Gleason’s Dalton Teeter will try to gain yards against host Fulton City when the GHS Bulldogs open their 2009 season on Friday night in the Twin Cities.
The Gleason Bulldogs have had a week to work on the details before they start their 2009 football season.
While the other three Weakley County teams kicked off their season in Week 0, the Dawgs opted to wait until Week 1 to begin the quest for a third straight playoff appearance. Gleason will open its campaign on the road in the Twin Cities tangling with the host Fulton City Bulldogs at 7:30 on Friday night.
Fulton City is licking its wounds after getting crushed by the Lake County Falcons last week. The Falcons dominated for a 70-19 win. Fulton City was playing without quarterback DeMarquis Young and will be again when it takes on Gleason. FC used three quarterbacks last week, and the trio combined to connect on just 4 of 16 passes with three interceptions.
One player Gleason will have to contend with is running back Jacquise Lockett, who scored on two special teams plays.
Gleason will also trot out a new quarterback as sophomore Conner Verdell will make his debut as a high school starter. Verdell threw for two touchdowns in Gleason’s jamboree victory over Fulton County two weeks ago.
