The first Bethel University graduates will walk the stage and receive degrees Aug. 2, according to President Bob Prosser
The summer 2009 graduation ceremony will be the first event after the school’s scheduled Bethel University celebration on Saturday, Aug. 1.
“We’ll have a groundbreaking for our new science building and a celebration event announcing our official status as Bethel University on Aug. 1,” Prosser said. “This is an historical event in the life of this school, and so will be the awarding of that first Bethel University degree. It’s very significant, and we will incorporate steps into our commencement exercises that will help us recognize this significance.
Close to 160 candidates are projected to graduate during the historical graduation ceremony.
Commencement will take place in Bouldin Auditorium of Bethel’s Dickey Fine Arts Building beginning at 2 p.m.
Sam Suddarth, the 2009-2010 Moderator of the General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, will serve as speaker.
“I will be honored and humbled at presenting the first Bethel University diploma,” Prosser said. “This is such an exciting time at Bethel, and I am grateful to get to be a part of it.”
Seating for graduation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Group photos for master’s degree candidates will be at 12:30 p.m., in front of Campbell Hall administration building, and group photos for bachelor’s degree candidates will follow at 1 p.m.
