A local church group paused at Hardee’s Restaurant in Union City early Wednesday as a breakfast stop before embarking on a trip to Keokee, Va., where they will join volunteers from other states in a bricklaying project at Meadow Fork Baptist Church. The group consists of (from left) Kijsa Williams, 11, and Billy and Peggy Crigger, all of Rives; and James and Glenda Vinson and Janie and Bobby Williams, all of Union City. The Vinsons are associated with Calvary Baptist Church, the rest of the group with First Baptist Church of Union City. “It’s a nine-hour drive,” said Crigger. “We’ll be gone a week.” In the background are their vehicles, a 40-foot-long Diplomat motor home and a 1995 Ford pickup with a 30-foot-long Challenger trailer. “We’re all volunteers and we all pay our own expenses. We’ve been doing this every summer since 1990. We’ve been in 37 states,” Williams said. Their motivation? “To show we love them and Christ does, too.”
