Cmdr. Benjamin Hugh Pester, 83, of Virginia Beach, Va., brother of Lois White of Union City, died July 1, 2009, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Albert G. Butzer III officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made to American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
He was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Casper, Wyo., son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Ruth Augusta (Clark) Pester. He was a 1948 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He retired from service to his country in the U.S. Navy in 1969 with the rank of commander. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, the Kiwanis Beach Combers and the Daylight Singing Time Barbershop Group.
He is also survived by his wife, Arden Lee Pester, whom he married June 5, 1948; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Penny Lyon and Heidi and Harold “Spike” Figgs, all of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Chris and Tom Phillips of Eugene, Ore.; two sons, Ben Pester of Granite Bay, Calif., and Michael Pester of Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and another sister, Margaret Ruth Bassette of Manassas, Va.
