Ruby Rogers host New Salem Club

New Salem Club met on June 5 with Ruby Rogers as hostess. Nine members were present. President Bettie Higgs opened the meeting and read the thought for the day – “there is no future in any job. The future lies in the one who holds the job.” – Crane.
DeAnna Higgs brought the devotional thoughts on the origin of the flag and the significance of its construction. Our flag represents one nation of people united by feeling and purpose. Marjorie Simmons led the songs “America,” and “God Bless America.” Club members read together the Club Creed.
Secretary Rogers called the roll, when those present passed a small gift with a flag on it to the person on her right, and she also read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Our creative writing entries and “best of the best” nominations are due in the regional office by July 1.
County Council meeting will be July 16. Contributions have been made to the cancer fund.The members continue collecting Campbell’s soup labels, soft drink pull tabs and carry teen-age items to We Care.
State membership FCE dues will be sent to Carolyn Maxey by July 1.
Agent Shelby brought a useful program, “Your Mother Was Right, Breakfast is the Most Important Meal of the Day” on the importance of eating a nourishing breakfast each morning.
Adjourning thought was “Responsibility Educates” by Wendell Phillips. Recreation with prizes and refreshments were provided by the hostess and were enjoyed after the meeting.
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 9, at the home of Mary Elizabeth Bell.wcp 6-23
