FUM Church receives new pastor | Randy Cooper new pastor at Martin FUM

Randy Cooper
Randy Cooper will become the pastor of the Martin First United Methodist Church on June 23. He and his wife, Gayle, will be moving here from Ripley, where they have lived for the past four years.
Cooper was born into the family of George and Louise Cooper near Humboldt. The youngest of four children, Randy planned to farm with his brother before God called him into the ordained ministry. Had he done so, he and his brother would have worked together as the seventh generation within the family to farm the same land since 1822.
With family roots nearly as deep in Methodism as in the land, Randy’s home church was the First United Methodist Church of Humboldt. He graduated from Lambuth University with a B.A. in Religion. After Lambuth, he has studied formally at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, the University of Aberdeen (Scotland), Memphis, and Princeton, N.J.
Cooper will soon be 56 years old and will complete his 31st year of pastoral ministry. Randy and Gayle have been married 34 years. Gayle is a physical therapist assistant. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
He has begun his sixth year as chair of the Order of Elders of the Memphis Conference. He considers it an important ministry of encouragement to those with whom he shares the ministry of elder in the United Methodist Church.
He and Gayle look forward to living in the Martin community and to becoming a part of the work of Christ in the church here.
