Mary Garner Posted: Friday, June 19, 2009 12:57 pm The Messenger, June 19, 2009 Mary (Coleman) Garner, 88, of Dresden, mother of Brenda Williams of Union City, died June 17, 2009, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Dresden, with burial following there in Sunset Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church building fund or Union City Second Baptist Church building fund. She was born in Weakley County Aug. 15, 1920, daughter of the late Sidney Phyllis and Bertie Moon Coleman. A member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, she was a member of Woman’s Missionary Union and was a charter member of the Red Hat Club. She was also a member of Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution. She is also survived by three other daughters and four sons-in-law, Phyllis and Clarence Collins, Wanda and Billy Powell and Donna and Robert Bates, all of Dresden, and Jerry Williams of Union City; her son, Van Garner of Frankfort, Ky.; and 13 grandchildren, 19 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Carlton Garner; and her sister, James Wilma Hamlin. |
