Lael Sunday School Class at Union City First Baptist Church met at the family life center for a regular monthly meeting recently.
Class president Bobbie Adams opened the meeting by asking for those who needed prayer. Jean Eaker led the prayer and Dorothy Capps gave the devotional from “Partners in Prayer,” by John Maxwell. The title was “Avoiding Personal Prayer Killers” and it included a list of 10 common “prayer killers”: unconfessed sin, lack of faith, disobedience, lack of transparency with God and others, unforgiveness, wrong motives, idols in our lives, disregard for others, disregard for God’s sovereignty and unsurrendered will.
“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. A Christian can’t simply pray once through a list like these 10 prayer killers and expect to be done with it. Every day we need to go to God and ask Him to reveal anything that may be hindering our progress. If we are faithful, God will draw us close to Him and He will answer our prayers,” Ms. Capps said. The class gave a monetary gift in honor of Hattie Lou Brown.
Jessie White was the hostess and served delicious refreshments to Trudie Thornton, Lena Mai Pruitt, Mrs. Stephens, Ms. Eaker, Grace Killion, Pat Cunningham, Dorothy Rasberry, Ms. Capps and Mrs. Adams.
The next meeting will be July 14, with Ms. Pruitt as hostess.
