Rives man arrested Posted: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 4:43 pm The Messenger, June 17, 2009 A Rives man has been arrested after leading police on a chase through a Union City neighborhood at speeds in excess of 100 mph. A Union City police officer reported he was responding to a domestic call at Stone Street Apartments on June 9 when he observed a motor vehicle go through a stop sign without stopping at Stone Street and Pleasant Valley Road. The vehicle turned south on Pleasant Valley Drive. The officer received information that the driver, Lawarnce Joseph Britton of 173 South Central Road, had been involved in the domestic call at the apartments and followed the vehicle, activating his emergency equipment and trying to get the vehicle to stop. The officer followed the driver to just outside the city limits, reportedly reaching speeds over 100 mph. The officer discontinued the attempt to stop the vehicle after finding out the driver’s name and that the victim had not been injured in the domestic. Warrants were obtained for Britton’s arrest. He was picked up on Thursday and charged with evading arrest and reckless driving. |
