Charity event discontinued in Selmer after fatal crash Posted: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 8:53 pm By: AP SELMER (AP) — Officials in Selmer said they will not have an annual charity event for the first time since a car spun out of control and crashed into a crowd two years ago, killing six people and injuring dozens. The deadly crash was part of a Cars for Kids parade, an event that has been held in the small West Tennessee town for 19 years to raise money for donations to places like St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Carl Perkins Center for Child Abuse. The town allowed the charity last year to have a carnival and other events, but there was no parade. Founder Larry Price told the Jackson Sun on Tuesday there would be no events at all this year. Friends and family members gathered Tuesday on the anniversary of the crash to remember those killed and injured. Published in The Messenger 6.17.09 |
