A 33-year veteran of the law enforcement industry and familiar face to Weakley Countians has been chosen to lead the Sharon Police Department.
In a called meeting Monday evening, the Sharon Board of Mayor and Aldermen announced Jerry Wilson of Dresden would take over as the new police chief.
Wilson retired in 2007 from the Dresden Police Department, where he served with the force for 33 years. He also served as Dresden’s police chief upon his retirement.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of Sharon. To be honest, I missed this line of work when I retired and missed meeting new people. I am looking forward to running the department. So far, the guys have been great to work with,” Wilson said on Wednesday.
Wilson officially took over on Tuesday and will be sworn in during Sharon’s regular monthly board meeting Monday. Sharon Lt. Jason Edwards served as interim police chief until a replacement was named.
