George E. Boyte, 87, of Martin, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital.
Services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Martin with Father Joseph Paolozzi officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
David Sudberry, Richard Boyte, Jerry Legens, David McNatt, Dr. Hobart Beale, Denton Bell, David Bell and James Denton Bell served as pallbearers.
Boyte was born February 5, 1922 in Sharon, son of the late Herbert and Mildred Bell Boyte. He was the widower of Madge Krantz Boyte. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a retired campus mail clerk at the University of Tennessee at Martin and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Survivors include one son, Craig Boyte of Wichita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Pam Boyte Oliver of Martin; one sister, Gwen Bell of Rockford, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kelly Lewis, Jennifer Darling, Andrew Oliver, Cody Oliver, all of Martin, Kevin Boyte of Lewisville, Texas and Laura Tomlin of Flower Mound, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hiram (Red) Boyte and James Boyte; two sisters, Pauline Morris and Kathryn Vaughn; and one grandchild.
