F. G. “Moe” Cavin Jr., died Thursday, May 28, 2009.
Services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Brentwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Cavin-Dillon, Bishop Joe Pennel, Rev. Cliff Wright and Rev. Bettye Mixon officiating with Austin Funeral & Cremation Services in charge of the arrangements. Burial was Monday at Tabernacle Cemetery in Brownsville.
Family members served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Robert J. Moore class and Cavit Cheshier.
Cavin was born in McKenzie, son of the late Fonzie Granville Cavin and Margaret Ella Bullington Cavin. He was a graduate of Martin High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin and began his career as a teller at the Martin Bank and later worked at the Farmers Exchange Bank of Union City. In 1974, he moved to Nashville and spent the remainder of his career at First American Bank where he served as president of the bank and vice-chairman of the holding company. He retired in 1988 and devoted the remainder of his life to several organizations including serving on the Boards of Miriam’s Promise and the United Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Thornton Cavin; children, Virginia M. Cavin, Sarah (Chad) Cavin McDonald, John T. (Sherrie) Cavin, Carol (David) Cavin-Dillon; grandchildren, Mark Snyder, Grant Snyder, Barrett McDonald, Sally McDonald, Nick Cavin, Cate Cavin, Caroline Cavin, Tate Dillon and Martha Dillon; sister, Roberta High; niece, Bettye Mixon.
