Bettie and Deanna Higgs were co-hostesses for the New Salem FCE Club meeting on May 1. The downpour of rain that had lasted for the preceding day, night and morning had finally stopped, allowing eight members to attend. A few were prevented because of overflowed roads.
After welcoming those present, President Bettie Higgs read the thought for the day “Mothers are the only goddesses in whom the whole world believes,” (anonymous). She then shared a reading, “A Mother’s Love” for the devotional.
Marjorie Simmons led songs “Mother” and “Blest Be the Tie” and all read together the club creed. As Secretary Ruby Rogers called the roll, those present shared some favorite last days of school memories.
Our activities have included providing books for newborns to be delivered to Volunteer General hospital, a collection made for the cancer fund and announcements that UTM is becoming a recycling center and will be open every day.
Program Leader, Mary E. Bell, shared some interesting facts on “Going Green – Energy.” Adjourning thought was “Now as always, the most automatic appliance in a household is a mother,” Beverly Jones.
Bettie and Deanna provided prizes for a period of recreation and served delicious refreshments.
The next meeting will be in the home of Ruby Rogers at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 5.wcp 5-26
