The Messenger has learned of the death of Paul F. Guy, 89, of Stafford County, Va., a former resident of Troy and the brother of Rene Watson and Annie Sampson, both of Troy. He died May 16, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital in Virginia.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. May 21 at Quantico National Cemetery.
Covenant Funeral Service in Stafford was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to Abundant Life Assembly of God, 200 Onville Road, Stafford, VA 22556.
He was born Aug. 10, 1919, in Troy, son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Harrison) Guy. He was married to the former Nellie Kendall for 68 years. She survives. He left Troy at the age of 17 to join the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II, fighting at Guadalcanal in the fall of 1942. He later retired from the military and was employed as water plant operator at Quantico until his retirement from that position. He was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees Local No. 1786.
Survivors also include four children, Judy Metz of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Paul Guy Jr. of King George County, Va., Beverly Grace Brown of Melbourne, Fla., and Winnie Sullivan of Stafford; and 43 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, W.J. Guy and Haskell Guy; and three sisters, Mozelle Ball, Edythe Herndon and Christine Hart, all of Troy.
