SEA OF RED, WHITE AND BLUE– A “Field of Flags”, consisting of 200 American flags, will proudly be displayed on the UTM grounds along University Street near the corner of Skyhawk Parkway from May 20 until June 12. The event, hosted by the Martin American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary, will benefit the local Carl Perkins Center serving families in Weakley and Obion counties. Flags may be purchased until June 8 to honor or memorialize friends and loved ones for $25 each. In addition, sponsorships are being sold for $50 or more for additional support of the Field of Flags program. Other sponsors of the event at this time include the City of Martin, General Supply, Vowell & Sons, Law Office of Kent Gearin, Office Products, and First Citizens Bank. All flags will be presented at a special program that will conclude the event on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14 at the Martin American Legion Lodge on Central Street at 2pm.
