Billy Terrell Abernathy, 71, of Hickman, Ky., died 3:15 p.m. May 17, 2009, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

Services were set for 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Hickman, with the Revs. Jamie Lee and Jim Glover officiating. Burial was to follow in Hickman City Cemetery.

Strong Funeral Home in Hickman was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were to be David Lattus, Harold Nerren, Jimmy Doughty, Dale Pate, Jimmy Blincoe and Gerald Conder.

He was born Oct. 10, 1937, in Hickman, son of Dorothy Abernathy of Hickman and the late L.B. “Red” Abernathy. He was a retired employee of Sigri Carbon in Hickman and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hickman. He had been a member of the Hickman Electric Board and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors also include his wife, Betty Lou (Terrett) Abernathy; his son, Michael Terrell Abernathy of Clinton, Ky.; his daughter, Julie Michelle Hayes of Liberty, Ky.; his brother, James Allen Abernathy of Mayfield, Ky.; his sister, Anna Faye Vowell of Hickman; and six grandchildren, Justin Hayes, Breece Hayes II, Brenna Hayes and Benton Hayes, all of Liberty, and Tyler Abernathy and Katie Abernathy, both of Clinton.
