Kimsey chosen to serve internship
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Junior and Martin native Matthew Kimsey was chosen to serve an internship with the Tennessee State legislator this semester. Kimsey had an opportunity to witness first-hand the state legislative process at a time when a historic shift took place in the Tennessee General Assembly.
“This was a great opportunity to work for the state government to learn its procedures,” Kimsey commented.
The Westview High School graduate began his internship when the Legislative Session began with Tennessee House members taking their oaths of office. Kimsey had the chance to watch as a Republican Majority was claimed in the Tennessee House of Representatives and a new Speaker of the House was chosen.
Kimsey’s assignment was to work for the House Government Operations Committee and its Chair, District 57 (Mt. Juliet) State Rep. Susan Lynn. After a few weeks of witnessing state legislators in action, the intern class hosted a mock session where they presented their own pieces of mock legislation to vote on. During the Mock Session, Kimsey said he received a high honor when his class elected him to serve as Governor of the Legislative Intern Class of 2009 during its election April 17.
“I am very grateful for the amazing opportunity and I hope to continue to work in public service in Tennessee,” the student shared.
Kimsey is the son of Renee´ Kimsey of Martin.wcp 4-30
