Several drug charges were filed against a second Union City man Tuesday night after police responded to a call about an allegedly suspicious vehicle.

Christopher Frank Murdock, 37, of 715 Bishop St., Union City, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. in the 500 block of West Main Street in Union City and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (meth), possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana), possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Clorazepate), possession of a Schedule III controlled substance (Suboxone) and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Union City Police Department report released today.

Murdock was the second person charged in the incident Tuesday night. Also charged with drug-related offenses was Michael Anthony Mele, 50, of 4202 Section Line Road, Union City, whose arrest was reported Wednesday by Union City police and published in Wednesday’s edition of The Messenger.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, police had received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle which had been in the area of Obion Farmers Co-Op and had moved to the United Steel Workers hall parking lot on West Main Street. The caller provided a vehicle description and tag number to police.

Officers arrived on West Main Street to find two men in a vehicle on the back part of the union hall lot, with the driver identified as Mele and the passenger as Murdock. One officer was dealing with an issue involving Mele when another officer allegedly noticed an open container of beer in the center console of the vehicle, at which time Murdock was asked to step out, according to the report.

After receiving consent to search, an officer reported he felt something in one of Murdock’s shorts pockets and pulled out a clear baggy that contained what appeared to be eight grams of marijuana. The substance field tested positive, police reported.

The officer continued to search after Murdock was taken into custody and recovered from the same pocket a clear plastic ear plug container that contained a clear baggy with a white powder substance that Murdock stated was meth, according to the report. In the same pocket, allegedly, was a small container that contained four Clorazepate pills and he also allegedly had two Suboxone pills.

Police reported Murdock also had beside his seat belt buckle a clear pipe routinely used to smoke meth and it allegedly contained meth residue.

The vehicle was seized by police.
