Obion County resident Marvin Williams underwent heart transplant surgery Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Williams, 61, has been a patient at Vanderbilt since Jan. 6 awaiting a donor heart as the result of developing many heart complications secondary to diabetes over the years. He has been on the transplant list since August 2008.
Williams remains in the cardiovascular intensive care unit today but is doing well, according to his daughter, Brenda Brinkley.
Friends and loved ones may monitor Williams’ progress on his CaringBridge Web site at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/marvinwilliams. Visitors may also post messages there for Williams and his wife, Judy. On a Web site posting Monday evening, Williams wrote, “Romans 8:28. I want everyone to know (Monday), I am receiving a new heart. Praise the Lord, He is so good to me. Thank everyone for their prayers and concerns. Continue to keep us in your prayers.”
In a story published April 1 in The Messenger, Williams said he firmly believed God would provide a donor heart when the time was right.
