WASHINGTON (AP) — Wisconsin vegetable farmers plan to plant more sweet corn this year but fewer snap beans, green peas and cucumbers.

That’s according to a new U.S. Department of Agriculture planting report focusing on vegetables grown for processors.

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says Wisconsin farmers plan to plant 90,700 contract acres of sweet corn for processing. That’s 2 percent more than last year.

They plan to plant 75,300 contract acres of snap beans for processing, down 7 percent from last year.

Green peas for processing are expected to drop 1 percent to 40,400 acres, and cucumbers for processing into pickles are expected to drop 10 percent to 6,400 acres.
