KNOXVILLE (AP) — TennCare officials say 2008 has been a record year for exposing fraud against the state public health care system. The Office of the Inspector General for the agency said by the last week of December, it had made 35 arrests during the month and 262 arrests for 2008. The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the numbers were records for both any single month and any year since the office was formed in February 2005. Inspector General Deborah Faulkner said a 2007 bill that made “doctor shopping” against the law spurred more arrests in 2008. State officials estimate the office has saved $159 million for the TennCare program. Information from: The Knoxville News Sentinel, http://www.knoxnews.com Published in The Messenger 12.31.08
