In their first night of action at the 44th Annual Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament, both Westview squads took relatively sizeable victories to advance in the winners’ bracket Saturday night.
The WHS Lady Chargers used a high-scoring first quarter to build a large advantage early and won, 74-46, over the Hickman County Lady Falcons.
The Westview boys took their second win of the season from the South Fulton Red Devils by a 74-57 margin.
Getting off to an 8-0 start in the Lady Chargers’ game, Westview’s run was interrupted by a pair of free throws from Paige Barclay. Knocking down five 3-pointers in the quarter, WHS held the Lady Falcons to five more first-quarter points and led 26-7 at the end of one.
Amber Rechis scored Westview’s first eight points of the second quarter. Rechis scored five more points and helped the Lady Chargers to a 47-21 halftime advantage.
Amber Nanney and Rechis led Westview with six points each in the third. Though the Lady Chargers scored just seven in the fourth, they cruised to a 74-46 win and the semifinal round of action on Monday night.
Rechis was game-high scorer with 30 points. Sara Olds had 12. Korrina Savage led the Lady Falcons with 10 points.
The Chargers had a little more difficulty with the South Fulton Red Devils in the second contest, but outlasted the visitors and pulled out a 74-57 win.
With the lead changing hands several times in the first quarter, Jacob Lloyd topped Westview with nine points including two 3-pointers. The Red Devils, however, held onto an 18-17 advantage at the end of the opening frame.
Jacob Lloyd put up 11 points in the second quarter and Reid Cates hit a pair of trifectas to give Westview a 19-9 scoring edge for the quarter and a 36-27 lead at the halftime break.
The Devils picked up the pace in the second half, but Charger reserves came in and finished the job in the 74-57 win.
Jacob Lloyd led WHS with 22 points. Cates scored 12 and Davell Lloyd had 10. Jacob Wade was high scorer for South Fulton with 23 points.
