TennCare MCO Makes America’s Best Health Plan List

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Earning the 31st and 55th national spots, Volunteer State Health Plan (VSHP) is featured in the U.S. News and World Report/NCQA America’s Best Health Plan 2008-09 rankings for Medicaid plans. VSHP’s BlueCare plan, which serves enrollees in the TennCare program, ranked 31st nationally out of 80 plans with a score of 83.2 (out of 100) points. Among Medicaid plans in Tennessee, BlueCare had the highest rank. VSHP’s TennCareSelect plan scored 78.1 points and is #55 on the list. Rankings were determined by measures of prevention, treatment, consumer experience and NCQA Accreditation. NCQA or the National Committee for Quality Assurance is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.
