The Messenger. 12.29.08 Storms caused outages for about 500 Gibson Electric Membership Corp. customers northeast of Union City Saturday night. The outage began at 7:01 p.m. and Gibson EMC crews were dispatched immediately. Crews located the problem quickly but discovered it was worse than originally believed, according to Rita Alexander, vice president of Human Resources and Communications for Gibson EMC, who said the crews found a line that burned and fell. Power was restored to about 470 of the 521 affected customers within 15 minutes. The restoration took about another hour for the 50 or so remaining customers along Knox Daniel Road near Union City. Gibson EMC is an electric cooperative serving more than 35,000 customers over 2,800 miles of electric lines in Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Obion, Madison, Haywood and Lauderdale counties.
