The Messenger. 12.29.08 A charge of driving under the influence was levied against a Martin woman as the result of a one-vehicle traffic accident Friday afternoon on Tyson Drive at Granger Street in Union City. Mary Alice Ybarra, 47, of 538 Highway 431, Martin, was charged with DUI and also failed to show proof of insurance following a crash that occurred about 1:57 p.m. in the 2800 block of Tyson Drive, according to a Union City Police Department report. Ms. Ybarra was eastbound on Tyson Drive when she lost control of the 1994 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving and struck a guard rail at Granger Street and Tyson Drive. The driver then allegedly backed up and struck the guard rail on the opposite side of Granger Street, then went forward and again struck the guard rail just to the right of where the first impact occurred. Police reported the driver apparently again reversed and attempted to leave the scene, but it is believed that the vehicle’s steering was no longer working, causing the driver to strike the guard rail a fourth time. Ms. Ybarra was taken by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment.
