Nina Jean Harper Walker, 78, of Union City, died Dec. 19, 2008, at her home. Services were held 2 p.m. Monday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Eddie Hicks and Dr. Richard Hipps officiating. Burial was in East View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin Griffith, Benjamin Walker, Patrick Walker, Spencer Walker, Jim Bell Hatchel, Damon Campbell and Tony Maness. Honorary pallbearers were members of Union City Bar Association and the local bankers association and Dr. Harold Butler. She was born June 4, 1930, in the Clayton community of Obion County, daughter of the late Marvin and Clara Green Harper. She was the widow of Lawrence Iven Walker. She had been a legal secretary since 1950, having worked for the late George Cloys, the late Fenner Heathcock, the late Paul Hudgins, the late Tom Elam, the late James M. Glasgow, the late Charles Miles and John Tanner, John Miles and Tony Maness. She had also been employed at Northwest Tennessee Development District in Martin for 10 years. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Clinton, Ky., and attended Union City First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Leo Beale of Cordova; her son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Terry Walker of Union City; five grandchildren, Justin Griffith of Antioch, Benjamin Walker, Patrick Walker and Spencer Walker, all of Union City, and Lindsay Griffith of Brentwood; and a great-grandson, Easton Walker Griffith of Antioch. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Norma Kent Bennett. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis or the Lady Vols Basketball Scholarship fund.
