The Messenger. 12.22.08 Elmo Underwood, 89, of South Fulton died 1:50 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with burial following in Clark Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the hour of services. The family requests that memorials be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1159 Parker Road, South Fulton, TN 38257. He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Graves County, Ky., son of the late George Arthur and Ida May Willie (Underwood) Neely. He was the widower of Ruth (Babb) Underwood and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired salesman and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Fulton, where he had been an elder. He was a 45-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and had lived there for 20 years before returning to this area in 1973. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and William Mitchell of Fulton; two stepsons, Bill Hobson of Phoenix and Ray Ham of Atkins, Texas; three grandchildren, Ben Mitchell of Murray, Ky., Morgan Mitchell of Knoxville and Steve Slezinski of Fort Gratiot, Mich.; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Jackie Armbruster of Fulgham, Ky.; and a niece and four nephews.
