Two drivers were injured in a four-vehicle crash Monday evening on East Reelfoot Avenue at Hillcrest Street in Union City.
Lawrence W. Brinkley, 80, of 980 Lett Houser Road, Union City, and Chariti Turner, 25, of 624 East Palmer St., Union City, were both taken by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City following an accident that occurred about 5:20 p.m. during wintry precipitation, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Brinkley was westbound on East Reelfoot Avenue when he lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Impala due to the icy weather conditions and collided head-on with a 2003 Mazda pickup driven by Davy Lynn Jones, 47, of 114 Siegel Road, Tiptonville, who was eastbound and was stopped in the turn lane waiting to turn left onto Hillcrest Street at the time, police reported.
After colliding with the other vehicle, Brinkley continued westbound, accelerated and crossed into eastbound traffic, colliding head-on with a 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by Ms. Turner, who was eastbound in the outside lane, according to the report. A fourth driver, Tiffany Byars, 37, of 1216 Lone Oak St., Union City, told police she could not stop in time due to ice on the roadway and her 2006 Hyundai Tucson collided with both Brinkley’s vehicle and Ms. Turner’s vehicle by going between them, causing damage to both sides of Ms. Byars’ vehicle.
All four drivers were traveling alone at the time of the accident, police reported.
