SANTA’S HELPERS — Volunteers representing Union City First United Methodist Church assisted at the Reelfoot Rural Ministry Toy Store in the Minnick-Elbridge community recently, helping organize the donated toys that concerned church members and others across the community have donated to RRM, a mission of the United Methodist Church. The RRM Toy Store expects to serve 1,923 children from 855 families this Christmas season. This number is greatly increased over previous years, a spokesman said. Parents are permitted to shop at the store for four new toys for each child at greatly reduced prices, giving the children the joy of something special from Santa on Christmas morning and parents in need of a little assistance the sense of providing for their families at this special time of the year. Taking part in the volunteer Santa effort were (kneeling, from left) Van Veatch, Doris Veatch, Jennie Overall, Carol Latimer, Linda Lewis, Ina Davis, (standing) Beverly Hunt, Larry Buckles, Anita George, Rita Buckles, Nancy Baldridge, Anita Fisher, Janice Faulk, Ken Davis and Cindy Cowell. Others who assisted by are not pictured include Judy Taylor and Faye Buckner. The RRM Toy Store will continue to accept new toys for children from birth to 16 years old through Monday. Monetary donations and gifts of food to help families at Christmas and throughout the year are always needed. Donations of any kind may be left at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Union City. Those interested may also call RRM at 538-9970 for more information or to arrange for pickup of large items.
