A Memphis man was charged with a drug-related offense Tuesday night after Union City police responded to a complaint on High School Drive.

Robert Earl Coleman, 23, of 1421 Lyceum Road, Memphis, was arrested at 7:38 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) with intent for resale, according to a Union City Police Department report.

Police had responded to the 1700 block of High School Drive in reference to five men allegedly having guns and an officer on the scene indicated there were several subjects in a vehicle who were “not complying,” police reported.

As an officer approached the vehicle to search for weapons, he allegedly observed a package of rolling papers. Police searched the vehicle and found a coat, which Coleman claimed to own, that contained in its pocket two clear baggies with a green leafy substance that Coleman allegedly indicated was marijuana. He was placed under arrest.

Police also recovered another clear baggy of a substance believed to be marijuana from the vehicle console and seized $707 cash and his 1996 Mercedes Benz from Coleman. The total weight of the marijuana was reported to be 65.7 grams.

At the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex, Coleman was issued a barred notice from all Union City Housing Authority and East Gate Village properties, according to the report.
