Charles M. Winstead, 76, of Martin, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital. Services were at 12 p.m. today at Pisgah United Methodist Church, with the Rev. H.B. Fields officiating. Burial was at Pisgah Cemetery in Dresden. Murphy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ryan Hooper, Ross Hooper, Shane Roberts, Billy Gene Wagster, Ralph Nelms, William Winstead and Joey Woodruff served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Nanney, Larry Priest, Billy Story, Ross Hudson and Gerald Freeman. Winstead was born June 11, 1932, in Weakley County, son of the late Ellis Lee and Millie Bushart Winstead. He had been office manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and the widower of Valma Abernathy Winstead. Survivors include a son, Kenny Winstead of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Angie Hooper of Martin; a stepson, Lamar Woodruff of Bartlett; a sister, Rachel Winstead of Dresden; a stepbrother, Carthel Wheeler of Dresden; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
