Bobby Gene Bumpus, 75, of Union City died Dec. 7, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at White & Mahon Funeral Home in Troy, with Ron Newberry officiating. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery in Troy.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
He was born April 24, 1933, in the former Johnsonville, son of the late Noel Earl and Lois Edna (Wright) Bumpus. He married the former Minnie Eddie Walker July 23, 1955. She survives.
He was a retired USDA meat inspector, having worked for that department for 24 years. A member of Troy Church of Christ, he was also an American Red Cross volunteer first responder and had been a member of the Citizens Fire Academy. He received the USDA Achievement Award and was a TSSAA basketball and softball official.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth Ann and Robert Glass of Roanoke, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Theresa Bumpus of Troy and Larry and Darlene Bumpus of Union City; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda Magness of South Fulton; two brothers, Leon Bumpus of Paris and James Earl Bumpus of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha Jane Bumpus.
