| | Two Gleason men wanted in three counties for cattle thefts were arrested in Henry County last week. According to a press release issued by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Billy Andrew Smothers, 22 and Jacob Wayne Davis, 20 of Bell Store Road outside of Gleason were caught at a bank in McKenzie attempting to cash a check they received for allegedly selling stolen cattle. Authorities were alerted to a McKenzie branch Bank of Gleason to be on the lookout for the pair attempting to cash a check from a sale barn in Scotts Hill when they allegedly sold the stolen cattle. They led McKenzie Police officers in a pursuit before being caught in Henry County on Tuesday. Apparently, the two men abandoned their truck near Ben Smith Road on an empty railroad bed. Smothers and Davis face charges of theft over $1,000 and theft over $10,000 in Weakley County for cattle thefts in two different locations during the last month. They also face cattle theft charges in Henry and Carroll counties. Officers from Weakley, Henry and Carroll counties as well as the McKenzie, Gleason, Paris and Henry police departments assisted in the investigation.
