UT Martin men
ink Memphis star

The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team recently signed Craigmont High School small forward Zach Jones to a scholarship.
Former UT Martin player and Craigmont head coach David Taylor recommended Jones to Skyhawk head coach Bret Campbell. Jones will suit up for UTM next season.
“Zach should fit into our system very quickly,” Campbell said. “He is a long, athletic wing with a good skill level.”
Jones saw action in 29 games as a junior and he averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game. Jones, the 12th player out of Memphis to sign a Division I scholarship this year, helped lead Craigmont to a 24-12 overall record and a 9-3 worksheet in District 14-AAA.
“Jones, who can play the two or three, is long and athletic and will fit the style of the OVC emerging power very well,” said Andre Whitehead on his web site Tennessee Prep Sports. “His ability to score off the bounce will help him get on the floor in the penetrating style of Coach Bret Campbell and his Skyhawks.”

with lefty signing

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Left-hander Trever Miller and the St. Louis Cardinals finalized a one-year contract Wednesday.
The 35-year-old reliever was 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA in 68 games with Tampa Bay last season, when he held left-handed hitters to a .209 average against him in 91 at-bats. He also allowed just six of 37 inherited runners to score.
In eight-plus seasons he is 14-14 with a 4.43 ERA and 10 saves in 519 appearances.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said improving the bullpen, especially from the left side, was a priority for the offseason.
