By DONNA RYDER Messenger Associate Editor “It’s a Wonderful Life,” as directed by Frank Capra, is a timeless classic. Its events pertain to those happening even today as is shown in the version being portrayed by the Masquerade Theatre cast over the next three weekends. George Bailey (John Blanton) spent most of his life trying to leave the small town of Bedford Falls. Before being able to go off to college, his father dies and he takes over the family business, giving his brother, Harry (JoMykel Hepler), the money he’d saved for school. Along the way, Bailey tries to prevent Henry Potter (Jeff Alexander) from taking over the town during an economic crisis. Potter continues to try to destroy the Bailey Building and Loan. It’s when Uncle Billy (David Houston) misplaces $8,000 that Potter gets his chance and Bailey thinks of ending it all through suicide. Before he can jump, Bailey receives a visit from his guardian angel Clarence (Terry Overall). Clarence says many powerful prayers from those people who love Bailey brought him to earth to help. Clarence takes the opportunity to show Bailey what life in Bedford Falls, or Pottersville as Bailey would find, would be like if he had not been born. The play is a must-see for anyone who loves the old classic. Masquerade Theatre’s production is being directed by Linda St. Clair, with assistance from Todd Little and Jonathan Johnson.
