Martin woman charged
A Martin woman faces a felony charge after she allegedly admitted to local police officers that she planned to burn down a house after an argument between she and her husband. Mary Cherry, 43, of Meek Street in Martin, was arrested last week by the Martin Police Department after officers discovered a strong odor of gasoline inside her residence. According to an incident report, Cherry told police officers that she had poured gasoline on a bar and floor of the kitchen inside the house and planned to burn the house down after the couple had an argument the night before. The report cited two victims were in the home during that time and Cherry had placed their lives in danger. A wood-burning stove was also in use during the incident. Cherry was arrested Wednesday and charged with reckless endangerment (serious injury or use of a deadly weapon). She is set to appear in General Sessions Court this week. 12.02.08
