Harold William “Chan” Chandler, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Vickery Towers in Dallas, Texas. Chandler was born Aug. 21, 1912, in the Harmon house in Sharon, son of Relma Roberts and Callier Cornelius Chandler. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1931. The following year he began work with the Corps of Engineers. From 1950-60 he was the owner and operator of Chandler’s Grocery in Sharon. In 1960 he moved to Oklahoma with the Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District and resided in Muskogee, Sallisaw, Ponca City and Duncan. In 1968, he was awarded a Professional Engineer certificate and retired in 1975 to Arlington, Texas, to live close to his children. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Arlington Men’s Garden Club, the Newcomer’s and Encore Clubs and Arlington Lodge No. 438. He joined the Masonic order in 1941, later received his 32nd Degree and was a Shriner. He was the widower of Pearl Rosena Hauser, who died in 2001 after 61 years of marriage. Survivors include a son, James Callier Chandler and wife Jeanne of Tupelo, Miss.; a daughter, Sue Ann Duncan and husband Doug of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Martha Sue Ayers of Milan; five grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Johnson, Jade Renee Hudson, Justin Callier Chandler, Melisa Nicole Guinnee and Stephen Paul Duncan; and five great-grandchildren.
