David Johnson Chorus to celebrate Christmas

David Johnson Chorus to celebrate Christmas

Posted: Thursday, December 4, 2008 12:19 pm

Join David Johnson Chorus this year and expect the unexpected. There is the familiar, like “White Christmas,” “Deck the Halls” and “Frosty the Snowman,” that makes one almost feel like singing along. And then there are familiar songs arranged to have a new and surprising twist that create excitement and delight. One of the highlights of this year’s show will feature the men singing some traditional madrigal style songs (“Processional Alleluia” and “Lirum, Lirum”) and the women singing some African songs (“African Noel” and “Chapua Kali Decemba”). And finally, what has become a specialty of this group, the beautiful a cappella Negro Spirituals (“Go Tell It On The Mountain” and “Amen”) will evoke strong emotions. The group has taken their concert, “Come Celebrate Christmas!,” to several venues this holiday season, including The Biltmore in Asheville, N.C., the Union City Civic Center, the First Presbyterian Church in Humboldt and the Veterans Hospital in Memphis. The David Johnson Chorus will perform its Christmas special Dec.13 at 7 p.m. and again on Dec. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Both concerts will be at the Dresden Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room. Adult tickets will be $10. Children and students will be admitted free of charge. No advance tickets will be available. A reception will follow each concert.
