D’burg Lady Trojans 71 in OT
The Dresden Lady Lions squandered an impressive outing by Erica Glisson in a 71-65 overtime loss to the Dyersburg Lady Trojans Saturday.
Glisson amassed 42 points, but Dresden allowed Dyersburg’s Jessica Light to dribble the length of the court and fire a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to force the OT. Game-high scorer Katie McCall’s free throws missed the mark and the crowd gasped at the ending of a long and hard-fought battle in which the Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets hung around all game and fell just short of defeating the Dyersburg Lady Trojans, 73-70, Friday night at Westview High School in Martin.
Dyersburg opened with a 5-2 lead, but McCall paced Greenfield with 7 points and Haley Rawls hit a 3-pointer to tie the contest at 12. A layup from Emily Randolph gave the Lady Yellowjackets a 14-12 advantage, but three free throws by the Lady Trojans put them up 15-14 at the end of one.
The neck-and-neck play continued in the second quarter. Lauren Evans opened with a layup to hand Dyersburg the 17-14 advantage. Free throws increased the lead to 19-14, but as the Lady Trojans kept the scoring going, Greenfield refused to go away. With both teams entering the bonus, free throws from Mallory Robinson gave Greenfield the 33-32 advantage and another free throw put GHS up 34-32 at the half.
Matching each other basket for basket in the third frame, the teams found themselves deadlocked at 47 at the end of three.
