A Troy man was charged with drug-related offenses and evading arrest following an attempted traffic stop Wednesday morning in Union City. Tony Alan Winsett, 39, of 8157 Wolf Creek Road, Lot 4, Troy, was arrested at 11:01 a.m. in the 600 block of South Ury Street and charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (meth) with intent and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Union City Police Department report. An officer reported he attempted to stop a vehicle in which the driver was not wearing a seat belt about 10:55 a.m. As the officer attempted to get behind the vehicle, the driver allegedly started traveling at high speeds down several streets. The driver, identified as Winsett, finally stopped in the 600 block of Rose Street, where he allegedly jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. The officer gave chase and apprehended Winsett in the 600 block of South Ury Street. The officer said he had observed Winsett throw something into a yard and he recovered a canister containing a baggy with a white powdery substance that Winsett allegedly admitted was meth, according to the report. He was also allegedly in possession of a bag that contained various types of drug paraphernalia and a search of the vehicle yielded another baggy with the same substance in the driver’s floorboard and a hypodermic needle that Winsett allegedly advised was loaded with meth, police reported. Winsett was also issued a citation charging him with a seat belt violation. Published in The Messenger 12.1.08
