The Messenger. 11.24.08 A local man told police he was assaulted early Saturday outside a Union City establishment. The assault was discovered at 1:29 a.m. by a police officer who was making a traffic stop and approached a vehicle to find the passenger “bleeding severely out his nose and left eye,” according to a Union City Police Department report. The victim told police he’d been drinking at Paddy McGee’s on South Ury Street and that he was asked to leave due to getting into an argument with another man. He claimed that when he walked outside, he was assaulted by six or seven black men. The officer told the driver of the vehicle to take the victim to the local hospital’s emergency room due to the severity of his injuries. At the emergency room, the victim told police he did not know the names of the men who assaulted him. He alleged they hit him repeatedly with their fists and kicked in the left side of his face near his eye, according to the report. Police reported the victim was “uncooperative” and would not tell who assaulted him.
