The Messenger. 11.24.08 Mary Nell Amptman, 79, of South Fulton died 7:45 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Union City. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with the Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the hour of services. The family requests that memorials be made to South Fulton Baptist Church, 509 Forestdale Ave., South Fulton, TN 38257. She was born July 27, 1929, in Fulton, daughter of the late Raymond A. and Grace (Crockett) Roach. She was the widow of Elmer Lee Amptman, who died Nov. 10, 2008. Mrs. Amptman was a member of South Fulton Baptist Church and had worked in food service management at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She had lived in St. Louis for 20 years, returning to this area in 1978. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Mike Hankerd of Thorton, Colo., Helen Louise and Ken Colter of Maplewood, Mo., and Lisa and David Easterwood of Troy; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Mickey Gillette of Warrenton, Mo., and Sharon and Gene Steffe of Fenton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jason Hankerd, James Easterwood and Colton Easterwood; three step-grandchildren, Richard Prater, Cindy Schwagmann and Steven Prater; three sisters, Willowdean Zickefoose, Bessie Lou Tune and Bonnie Ruth Eastep, all of South Fulton; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Walter A. “Ted” Roach; her daughter, Ellen Amptman; and two step-grandchildren. Online tributes may be left at www.hornbeakfuneralchapel.com.
