The Messenger. 11.25.08 The annual tour on Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge for the public to view American bald eagles in the wild begins Dec. 4. According to Gary Cook, manager of Reelfoot NWR: • The tours are free of charge. Each lasts about 2 1/2 hours. • Two tours a day are scheduled — 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Eagle viewing season will end in late February, depending on area temperature and eagle departure (migration north) from Reelfoot Lake. • Five adults can be taken on each tour. • Reservations are required. Call the Refuge headquarters at 538-2481. • Participants are encouraged to dress in warm clothing and bring a camera and pair of binoculars. • The tour includes visits to Grassy Island and Long Point units of Reelfoot NWR.
