Burnett loses battle for life

Union City native John Burnett, who was struck by a bullet from a high-powered rifle Nov. 15 at Reelfoot Lake, has died from complications from the injuries.
The 44-year-old Paris resident, who is the son of Peggy Burnett of Union City and the late Bill Burnett, had been at Regional Medical Center (The Med) in Memphis, where he had undergone multiple surgeries since the shooting. He died there about 2 this morning.
The shooting incident oc-curred about 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in a forested area of Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge near Walnut Log. Burnett and three other men and a dog were on their way to check on a duck blind they were rebuilding when the shooting took place.
White-Ranson Funeral Home in Union City is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
