Hunter Hynds Unit has monthly session

The Messenger. 11.20.08 Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women amet recently at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church with 12 members present. President Chris Cheatham called the meeting to order. Mrs. Cheatham gave the opening prayer, following the voicing of many prayer requests and concerns. She also led the unit in reciting the purpose. Emily Haynes read the minutes and Leanne Parnell gave the treasurer’s report. Working toward the unit’s goal to participate in the reading program, Linda Winstead volunteered to read “Taught by America,” and Shannon Roberts agreed to read “Enrique’s Journey.” Rosemary Coleman reported on an article from “Response” magazine regarding the origin of the Brooks Howell home in Asheville, N.C., for deaconesses. The motto of the home is “Called, Served and Still Serving.” The group’s announcements included the fact that the December meeting will be held at Brandy’s in Martin. The group was also reminded that the Masquerade Theatre production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be the first two weekends in December. John Blanton, Serena Blanton’s husband, and their daughter, Emma Blanton, are members of the cast and he has the leading role of George Bailey. Mrs. Cheatham served as program leader of the World Thank Program entitled “Giving Thanks for Good News” by Lisa Swett. The membership participated in a “good news, bad news” activity, with several members sharing their feelings and concerns about the basic theme being depicted. Roberta Peacock read Bible selections including Psalm 100 and Micah 6:6-8. An additional reading of Malachi 3:8 was presented by Linda Winstead, who also sang a solo, “We Thank Thee All Our God.” A special offering for missions was also accepted. Mrs. Cheatham gave the closing remarks in a spirit of thankfulness and Becky Barnes dismissed the group with prayer.
