The Messenger. 11.13.08 Members of Exchange Street Church of Christ are sponsoring a community-wide collection of items that will be sent to the U.S. troops who are deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq during the holidays. Items requested include microwave popcorn, beef jerky, canned nuts, magazines, word puzzles, batteries (AA and AAA), Play Station games, lip balm, lotion, CDs, DVDs, posters, hard candy, scented candles, cookies, handkerchiefs, tissues and, most of all, cards and letters. These will be collected until Nov. 29. Items can be dropped off at E.W. James & Sons Supermarket, First Citizen’s Bank, KYTN radio station, Classy Clippers salon, Lake Road Elementary school second- and third-grade classrooms and at the church. Containers were donated by Lowe’s of Union City. Those who know someone from Obion County serving in Iraq or Afghanistan are asked to call Wanda Reed at 885-1507 or 885-6627 to submit their names to receive a package at Christmas. Mark Bell, store manager at E.W. James & Sons on Reelfoot Avenue in Union City, and Mrs. Reed, secretary at the church, inspect one of the collection containers at the store.
