The Messenger. 11.13.08 Beryl Caroline “Katie” Rachell, 91, of Columbia, Ill., formerly of Greenfield, died Nov. 5, 2008, at her home. She was the daughter of former Union City residents the late Sidney and Ima (Mayo) Walker. Services were 1 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield, with burial following there in Brock’s Chapel Cemetery. Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, Ill., was in charge of arrangements there. She was born July 30, 1917, in Greenfield and was the widow of Aaron “Red” Rachell. She was a former co-owner and operator of Centreview Hardware in Cahokia and was a member of Gearin’s Missionary Baptist Church in Greenfield. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Earl Sackett and Patricia and Perry Taylor, all of Naples, Fla., and Elizabeth and Rick Reed of St. Louis; her son, Jerry Rachell of St. Louis; two sisters, Margene Curcuro of Belleville, Ill., and Gladys Langley of Flintstone, Ga.; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Rachell; and her great-grandson, Adam Gischer.
